What is the City of Clearwater?

The City of Clearwater is the largest city in the state of Florida. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the northwest. With nearly 100,000 residents, it is the fourth largest city in the state. The City of Clearwater includes the neighborhoods of Bayfront, Clearwater, Dunedin, Indian Rocks, Kendall, Largo, North Redington Beach, Northdale, South Shilshole, South Redington Beach, and Sunset Park. It is also home to the distinct neighborhoods of Clearwater Beach, Clearwater Beach North, Clearwater Beach South, Gulf Front, Clearwater Beach West, Indian Shores, South Redington Beach, and the downtown area.

Clearwater City Council

The Clearwater City Council is the legislative branch of the city government. It meets monthly to consider and vote on the City’s budget, ordinances, and resolutions. The Council also appoints members to city commissions and boards and conducts other reviews of city initiatives. Council members are elected to two-year terms, and the current mayor is Jeff Cheney. The City has four council members: Cheney, Carol White, Lisa Halley, and John Fuller.


City Hall Departments

The City Hall departments are responsible for staff, budgets, and services that impact Clearwater residents. Each department is led by a city manager who reports directly to the mayor. The departments include: Finance, Human Resources, Planning and Community Development, Engineering, Public Safety, Administration, and Airport Services.  The Finance Department is responsible for managing the city’s finances, including its investments, funds, and contracts. The Human Resources Department is responsible for city employees, including benefits and compensation.
