The Woodgate Community is named after civil engineer and businessman Frank Woodgate, who was the original owner of the land. Woodgate first developed the land in the 1920s and sold lots in the mid-30s. When he died in 1942, his wife, Margaret, continued to manage the land until she sold it to a real estate developer in 1965. The community’s name comes from the community’s original name, “Woodgate Estates.” Margaret Woodgate’s son, Frank Woodgate II, originally owned the community’s land.  The Woodgate Community first became known nationwide in the mid-1970s because of the television show “Our House in Holmby.” The show, which starred Desi Arnez as a young man who gets a new home, became so popular that it was not only rerun but also recreated as a stage play.
